Brian Mooney, Fellow and former President of the Institute of Guidance Counsellors, uses MyAptitude and the EirQuest interest inventory with incoming 5th year students during Transition Year, before they make their Leaving Certificate subject choices.

He describes them as highly effective in helping students choose their subjects, and has used MyUniChoices to help students clarify their third level choices at the beginning of 6th year.

Give every student more personalised guidance

Every student is different. Some already have a clear career in mind. Others have no idea where to begin.

MyFutureChoice helps you understand each student’s interests, abilities and possible career directions before those important guidance conversations.

Students complete structured assessments and career research on their own. You can then use their personalised results to focus conversations, challenge assumptions and help them plan their next steps.

The technology supports your professional judgement. It doesn’t replace it.

Support students throughout post-primary school

Career decisions don’t happen at one point in a student’s education. MyFutureChoice supports students as their ideas develop.

Transition Year

Help students explore career areas, understand their interests and make better use of work experience and career research.

Leaving Certificate subject choice

Help students see how their interests, career ideas and the entry requirements of future courses affect the subjects they choose.

Senior Cycle

Give students a structured way to investigate careers, education routes and their future options.

Third level choices

Help students look beyond points and institution names, and explore courses based on their interests, academic strengths and plans.

Have students who are unsure where to start? That’s often where structured career exploration adds the most value.

EirQuest

Career guidance designed for Irish students

EirQuest is our career guidance programme for students preparing for the Irish Leaving Certificate, available in Irish and English.

Students answer 300 questions about their interests, abilities and personal qualities. Their results identify the career areas, from more than 50, that could suit them and give a structured starting point for further research.

Understand their strongest career and academic interests
Discover careers they may not have considered
Explore the realities and requirements of different occupations
Research education and training routes
Make more informed Leaving Certificate subject choices
Prepare for conversations with their guidance counsellor and parents
Reflect on their results and create an action plan

Students also get access to WORKBRIEF, our careers resource covering more than 550 careers.

Make guidance conversations more productive

A personalised report gives you and the student a useful place to begin.

Instead of only asking “What career would you like to do?”, you can explore more useful questions:

Which career areas match your interests?
What attracted you to this option?
Do your abilities support this direction?
Which Leaving Certificate subjects should you consider?
What qualifications or courses could lead there?
What other career routes should you look into?

The result is a more focused conversation, based on evidence, reflection and research.

Add another layer of insight with MyAptitude

Interests tell you part of the story. Abilities give you another perspective.

MyAptitude assesses students’ aptitudes and helps you understand their academic potential. Results complement EirQuest and help students recognise strengths they may not have seen in themselves.

MyAptitude is included on the Irish Department of Education and Youth’s published list of psychometric assessments for post-primary guidance, with Irish norms, and its assessments are registered with the British Psychological Society. Its ability tests are backed by Irish and UK norming studies and published reliability and validity evidence.

It gives you another source of evidence when you discuss subjects, courses and career directions.

MyUniChoices

Help students explore third level options

Choosing a third level course is a big decision. MyUniChoices helps students find courses that fit their interests, academic abilities and ambitions.

It draws on the CAO, UCAS and EUNiCAS databases, so students can research Irish courses alongside options in the UK and English-taught courses in Europe and Canada. Students can:

Discover suitable course areas
Explore courses available through the CAO
Compare institutions and locations
Research entry requirements
Shortlist courses
Explore study options abroad
Record their research and come back to it later

Instead of starting with a list of colleges, students start with a better understanding of what they actually want to study.

Students using MyFutureJourney

Give students ownership of their career planning

Students need time to explore. MyFutureJourney gives each student their own online space to complete assessments, view results, research careers and courses, reflect on what they find and return to their work whenever they need to.

It encourages students to take more responsibility for their decisions, and gives you a clearer picture of the research they’ve done.

Manage your guidance programme in one place with MyHQ

You already have enough administration. MyHQ gives guidance counsellors and authorised school staff one place to manage MyFutureChoice programmes and student activity. You can:

Add students in bulk or with self-registration links
View and download student reports
Track student progress and guidance sessions
See group results in charts and graphs
Use the resource library: lesson plans, video tutorials and parent materials
Use MyHQ in Irish (beta)

That makes it easier to deliver career guidance to large groups of students without extra administration.
